It seems as if the tree is struggling to survive and life is being pulled out of it. Life on the tip of the tree makes me feel like there is still hope for it.
This photo is taken at a very low angle with blades of grass showing. You can see the entire tree and it is all bent to the right. It is a tree with needles but there aren't needles except on the last three feet of the branches. Most of the tree's growth is horizontal and all the branches head in the same general direction. The left half of the tree where the trunk is located is very sturdy but the right half is flimsy and looks very brittle. Light is shining on the top third of the photo and tree.
The photo has a good composition of dull browns surrounded by dark and bright greens that creates a balancing effect which makes the tree even. the line quality around the tree is poor but there are many rigid and rough lines inside the tree. I think the placement of the object in space is good because the grass below it makes it appear at a bit of a distance but all the trees behind it makes it appear comfortably close.
I think this photo tells the story of struggling to survive and it shows hope on the edge. A one word title would be - Survival.
This photo connects to Kathe Kollowitz's drawings through detail. At certain places in this photo, there is an intense amount of lines but at other places the image has very soft edges i.e. where the light shines through.
