Landscape

1. One of the first things I notice about this photo is the little bit of green still left on the trees. I also notice a path going across the bottom part of the photo.  This photo must have been taken during the fall because the color of most of the plant life if brown and dull.  The trees look small because of the lack of leaves.

2. What I see in front of me is a photo of some plant life during the fall.  Towards the bottom of the photo is a path of some sort slanting a bit up when it goes to the right of the photo.  There is plenty of grass but it is brown. Behind it and towards the top of the photo is a small tree line consisting of ten or so trees that have lost many of their leaves and what leaves are left are brown.  It looks like there are some dead weeds growing around the trees. You can also see behind the trees where there is what appears to be a small pasture that is also brown. Above the pasture is a horizon line of a setting sun.

3. The composition of this photo is an interesting one because of the path cutting across the bottom of the photo and the tree line behind it.  The quality of the lines in this photo is decent but there really aren't all that many lines in this photo besides the horizon line, the edges of the trees and the path at the bottom.  The color of this photo is interesting because it is of plant life during the fall so there is some green but mostly brown.  What little green there is really pops out because it is surrounded by very dull colors. The placement in space of this photo is interesting because there is a foreground a middle ground and a background that clearly exists.

4. I think this photo does tell a story.  The photo tells the story of life. You have to do things before it is too late.  If you wait too long you might miss the chance of a literal lifetime. This photo shows the ending of a lifetime and there is very little time to accomplish what you should do before you die.  One word that describes this photo would have to be - Fulfill.

5. Mallord William Turner's pieces connects to my photo rather well.  It seems like Turner was rather fond of being relatively monochromatic in his pieces except for an area of bright color.  My photo is relatively brown and has a touch of green in it.  It also appears that he liked to create works that were at least inspired from nature and real life. My photo is from nature and connects well with Turner's works.

Week 9

1. What stands out about this photo to me is the fact that most of the photo is taken up by a shoe and pant leg.  I wonder if someone is traveling somewhere or thinking about it.  There is a charger in the background and I'm not sure why it is there. The shoe makes me think of being firm on where you stand on subjects.

2.  What I see in front of me is simple.  There is the bottom part of a leg that takes up most of the left half of the photo. The leg has dark denim jeans on it and the foot has an ankle sock with a brown and white shoe over it. The back part of the shoe is on a tile floor while the front part of the shoe is on a rug of some sort. The rug takes up the lower right half of the photo in the sense that the edge runs from lower left to upper right corner. The rug is a blue color a bit lighter than the pair of jeans.  There is also a piece of furniture in to back top right of the photo and a power cord coming from behind the leg and onto the rug.

3. The composition of this photo is good because of how the objects are arranged. The line quality of this photo is good. The edges of the shoe, pants and rug create a movement around the photo and make it more interesting.  The color of the pants and rug really bring the picture together because it creates balance.  The placement of the shoe at the front of the picture really makes it pop out from the rest of the photo and makes it more interesting.

4. I think this photo does tell a story. It basically tells the story of a lot of people. You have to stand on what you believe and never let anyone influence your beliefs too drastically.  If you ever let anyone trample over what you believe in you will never accomplish anything and won;t be able to get anywhere in life. I think that a one words title for this photo would be- Surefooted.

5. My photo connects to the works of William Kentridge in a few ways. One of the biggest connections is placement in space.  Kentridge puts almost all of his pieces in an environment and I did just that by having a rug underneath the shoe and having a couch in the background. Another way that my photo connects to his works is that it is of something from life.  I have a foot in my photo and he usually have a living organism in his works. My photo has very few different colors in it and he puts very few colors in his works as well.

Myself

1. When I look at this photo I think.  The subject is pensive and possibly concerned. The thing in this photo that stands out the most to me is the eyes. The eyes of this person are directly at the camera and provide a connection to whomever is looking at the photo.  I think the fact that the photo is in black and white intensifies the thought provoking pose of the subject.

2.  What I see in front of me is a black and white photo of someone.  The person is looking directly into the camera and has their chin resting on a hand with all fingers closed except for the fore finger. The person is wearing a black skin tight hat with a couple horizontal white stripes. He has long hair and a decent sized beard with no moustache.  The background is pitch black and a low amount of light on the subject shows that he is wearing a black shirt as well.  A large shadow is being cast on the left side of the person making the right side of the person very noticable.

3.  The composition of this photo is interesting because only a little of the subject's torso is showing and a white hand is leading your eyes to the middle of the photo. the line quality is good where it is defined and the color is in black and white with many shades of them showing.  The placement in space is interesting because of the background being the same color as most of the photo.

4.  This photo does tell a story.  It tells the story of everyone in the sense that you need to think about what you do before you do it.  Without thought, the world would be chaotic and disorderly.  A one word title for this photo would be-"Think."

5.  This photo connects very well with the works of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres in the sense that it is a photo of a person.  Ingres was apparently fond of drawing and painting the human figure and this photo is of a person. It also has many different values like most of the works of Ingres.

Perspective

1.  The first thing I notice is all of the pillars starting at the left edge of the photo and going all the way to the middle of the right half in a receding fashion.  Eventually the photo gets fuzzy at the end of the pillars.  The trees on the left block out a bit of the pillars.  Fading. Full on the left yet mostly empty on the right. Black and white photo.

2.  What I see in front of me is a scene from a college campus. There is a bunch of pillars on the left side receding in a one point perspective fashion towards the middle right part of the photo.  Each pillar has a light on it and has a pointed top.  There is also a tree or two on the left side behind the line of pillars and they hang over the pillars a little bit.  At the very back of the picture on the right half is a building that goes all the way from the ground to off the top of the photo.  The sidewalk to the right of the pillars consists of rows of cement squares and bricks laid between the lines of cement squares.  Beneath the trees on the left is a patch of grass.

3. The color of this photo is in black and white. The lack of color variation in this picture is made up by the different values.  The line quality of this picture is very good for a perspective picture and the quality get a bit worse the farther back you go. The composition of this photo is very good. It follows the rule of thirds in the way that the focal point is at the end of the pillar line and it crosses the top right imaginary line created by the rule of thirds. The placement in space of this picture is good since it creates an asymmetrical balance because of the mass of dark on the left and the mass of light on the right.

4.  This photo does tell a story.  It tells the story of many childhood incidents involving a lost ball.  Many kids have hit or kicked a ball into a neighbors lawn over their fence and just stop dead in their tracks.  Should they even attempt to go retrieve their ball or just forget about it and go inside?  The pillars going from the left to the right in this photo represent the fence between neighbors lawns.  One the left is the neighbors side where it is dark and on the right is the light comfort zone of many children; their lawn. You don't want to go to the neighbors lawn because it is so dark and dreary yet you can see your ball just sitting their in the neighbor's lawn. In one words this photo would be named - Borders

5.  This photo connects to the works of Edward Ruscha rather well. Ruscha is fond of using perspective in his pieces and my photo shows perspective rather well with the pillars receding to the back of the photo.  He also uses very few values in his works.  My photo has only a few values of black and white and it connects in that way.  My photo is of a building and features around the building and Ruscha doesn't have many abstract or non-objective piece so it also connects in that way.
