Week 9

1. What stands out about this photo to me is the fact that most of the photo is taken up by a shoe and pant leg.  I wonder if someone is traveling somewhere or thinking about it.  There is a charger in the background and I'm not sure why it is there. The shoe makes me think of being firm on where you stand on subjects. 

2.  What I see in front of me is simple.  There is the bottom part of a leg that takes up most of the left half of the photo. The leg has dark denim jeans on it and the foot has an ankle sock with a brown and white shoe over it. The back part of the shoe is on a tile floor while the front part of the shoe is on a rug of some sort. The rug takes up the lower right half of the photo in the sense that the edge runs from lower left to upper right corner. The rug is a blue color a bit lighter than the pair of jeans.  There is also a piece of furniture in to back top right of the photo and a power cord coming from behind the leg and onto the rug.

3. The composition of this photo is good because of how the objects are arranged. The line quality of this photo is good. The edges of the shoe, pants and rug create a movement around the photo and make it more interesting.  The color of the pants and rug really bring the picture together because it creates balance.  The placement of the shoe at the front of the picture really makes it pop out from the rest of the photo and makes it more interesting.

4. I think this photo does tell a story. It basically tells the story of a lot of people. You have to stand on what you believe and never let anyone influence your beliefs too drastically.  If you ever let anyone trample over what you believe in you will never accomplish anything and won;t be able to get anywhere in life. I think that a one words title for this photo would be- Surefooted.

5. My photo connects to the works of William Kentridge in a few ways. One of the biggest connections is placement in space.  Kentridge puts almost all of his pieces in an environment and I did just that by having a rug underneath the shoe and having a couch in the background. Another way that my photo connects to his works is that it is of something from life.  I have a foot in my photo and he usually have a living organism in his works. My photo has very few different colors in it and he puts very few colors in his works as well.
